Matthew Harrison

Professor Matthew Harrison FTSE is an awardwinning scientist at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), University of Tasmania, internationally recognised for advancing sustainable agriculture. He develops demanddriven solutions to production and environmental challenges, integrating systems thinking with applied science to improve productivity, profitability, social licence, and agrifood sustainability. As Director of the Carbon Storage Partnership, he leads interdisciplinary teams developing technologies and management practices for climatepositive agricultural transitions. His leadership has been acknowledged through the University of Tasmania’s highest honours, including the 2022 ViceChancellor’s Research Medal and the 2023 ViceChancellor’s Sustainability Award. He was also named the 2023 Premier’s Tasmanian STEM Researcher of the Year and elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE) in 2025. Professor Harrison advises governments and industry, including serving on the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC). He is TIA’s Lead for Climate Science and holds Adjunct Professorships at three major Chinese universities.
