Matty Demont

Matty Demont is an internationally renowned agrifood systems scientist with nearly three decades of experience across Europe, Africa, and Asia. His work focuses on food systems transformation centered on rice, a crop fundamental to global food security. Matty’s career has been shaped by deep country level engagement, including six years in a West African fishing village during the 2007–2008 food price crisis and over a decade advancing nutrition sensitive food systems in Asia. A recognized systems thinker, he pioneered the Gastronomic Systems Research (GSR) framework to integrate cultural and behavioral dimensions into food systems analysis. He has led major digital innovations such as the Investment Game App, Food Choice App, and Global Market Intelligence Platform (GloMIP), while his behavioral research program spans 18 countries and 11,000 stakeholders. A laureate of the Malassis and Schultz Award, Matty combines evidence-based leadership, innovation, and inclusivity to drive sustainable agrifood system transformation.
