Sara Scherr, 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People, USA

Sara J. Scherr is a leader in agricultural landscape regeneration globally. She co-founded and chaired the collaborative ‘1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People’ 2019-24, and now serves as Advisor and Research Working Group lead. She is an Advisory Board member of the non-profit Persimmon Co-Lab. From 2002-24 she led the non-profit EcoAgriculture Partners, advancing collaborative landscape management for food security, thriving livelihoods and healthy nature; and 2011-20 chaired its ‘Landscapes for People, Food and Nature’ initiative. She is a Fellow of the Global Evergreening Alliance and Council Member of the World Agriculture Forum. Her economics and policy research focuses on food security, agricultural development, ecosystem services, and land degradation and restoration. She held senior positions at Forest Trends, International Food Policy Research Institute, and World Agroforestry Center. Sara earned a B.A. in Economics at Wellesley College; and M.S. and PhD in International Economics and Development from Cornell University.
