Erin Taylor

Dr. Erin Taylor is an anthropologist specializing in research on smallholder farmers’ use of financial services and their role in value chains. She is Co-Director of Finthropology and a Research Associate at Western Sydney University. Her current project investigates the impact of digital financial services on smallholder farmers in Laos and Cambodia. She has also undertaken qualitative research on farmers’ financial decision-making in the Philippines and co-authored a report on smart farming in Southeast Asia. Erin is co-author of the books Digital Human Finance (2026, Edward Elgar, with Anette Broløs, Shriram Venkantraman and Jillet Sarah Sam), Customer-Centric Innovation in Finance (2024, Kogan Page, with Anette Broløs), and Materializing Poverty: How the Poor Transform Their Lives (2013, AltaMira). In her spare time, Erin grows as much food as possible in her small townhouse garden and volunteers for the local food bank.
